Scanner Summary
Uniden Bearcat BCD396XT is the latest digital trunking handheld scanner, released in March 2009. The 396XT Scanner is a feature-filled powerhouse that represents huge progress over its predecessor BC396T recently completed. With advanced microprocessors, huge memory capacity and an unparalleled effort to offer features and technologies that scanner fanatics and professional users have long aspired to, Uniden has hit another home run out of the park with a BCD396XT portable. We congratulate Uniden's U.S. product management and their group's Japan-based research and technical team for providing us with a sensational new scanner.
The 396XT handles the APCO-25 digital decoding and automatically does it very well. Digital public safety is widespread and growing across the country, from the inland upper Michigan peninsula to Miami Beach in Florida. In other areas, such as the cities of Boston and New York, where the principal you would expect to explore the latest digital technology, digital radio is hard to find. In these and many other areas of communication are still analog, as they were 70 years ago, but these systems are rock-solid and provide intelligence that in many areas demand. Bearcat BCD396XT handles both digital and analog (non-digital) systems brilliantly. The 396XT also handles Motorola, EDACS (R) and LTR trunking systems better than any sensor on the market today, not only with standard trunking capabilities, but also with an unmatched set of features like I-Call, True, Priority, modern AFS operation, and much more. (Note that there are several non-standard digital systems and encrypted systems that cannot be tracked on any scanner.) The 396XT is a bulky memory, GPS operation, Fire Tone out of order and more features than you could ever imagine in just a few short flights. Bearcat BCD396XT is simply a huge leap forward.
The 396XT has a very strong competitor however in the GRE PSR-500 and PRO-106. In the overview below we analyze in great detail the properties, functioning and BCD396XT design and then compare the scanner against GRE and PRO-106 (both made by GRE). Be sure to click the More Information button and compare cards for the amount of outstanding information as well.
Note that if you are not sure if you need a $500 digital sensor (the price for all digital models) then try www.policescanners.net and enter your name and zip code and our system will automatically inform you about the types of radio systems near you and whether you need a digital or not. Remember that in some areas digital may not be used by local police, but can be used by state police/highway patrol agencies, please read these sections carefully.
